If you've searched for "in-app changelog tool" in the last two years, you've found Beamer. It comes up first, it has a polished marketing site, and their demo looks great. Then you click pricing.
For a VC-backed SaaS with 10,000 users, that might be fine. For an indie founder just trying to keep users informed about what shipped last week, it's hard to stomach.
Here's a rundown of the real alternatives.
Note: SaaS pricing changes frequently. The figures here may be outdated, so always check each tool's pricing page directly before making a decision.

Beamer
Beamer is genuinely good. The editor is nice, the NPS and reaction integrations are useful if you're running an enterprise product. The problem is that it's priced for enterprise products, and there's no meaningful free plan, and you won't know if it's right for you until you're already paying.
If you have a big user base and need deep analytics on which users opened which announcement, Beamer might be worth it. If you're still finding product-market fit, paying enterprise-tier pricing to tell 200 users about a bug fix is a rough trade.
Best for: Established SaaS products with marketing budget.
Headway
Probably the second-most-known player. Headway is cleaner than Beamer, cheaper, and the widget looks sharp. The main limitation is the Markdown support: it's basic, and you can't do much formatting. The public changelog page is decent but not very customizable.
Headway has a free tier that covers the basics. The Pro plan ($29/month) adds custom domain, whitelabel branding, team management, scheduled publishing, and integrations. For most teams, you'll want Pro, since the free plan gets you started but the key features are behind the paywall.
Best for: Teams who want a clean, no-fuss widget and don't need much customization.
If Headway is the one you are weighing up, there is a longer breakdown in Headway alternatives.
Noticeable
Noticeable has a strong focus on notifications and targeting, so you can show certain changelogs to specific user segments. Good if you have a complex product with different user roles and you're tired of showing backend API changes to your marketing team users.
The pricing starts reasonable but gets expensive fast once you hit user limits.
Best for: Larger products with segmented user bases.

AnnounceKit
Feature-rich and team-focused, with good collaboration tools. Checked on their own pricing page on 2026-08-08, Essentials is $89/month ($79 billed annually), Growth is $149/month ($129 annually) and Scale is $399/month ($339 annually), with a 15 day full-access trial and no free plan. The widget is solid and they have a feedback and NPS module that Beamer requires add-ons for. There is a longer breakdown in AnnounceKit alternatives.
Best for: Teams of 3+ who need to collaborate on changelog content and have the budget to match.
Changefeed
Honest assessment: Changefeed is basic. It gives you a public changelog page and an RSS feed, and that's largely it. No widget, no segmentation. If you only need a public page and don't want anything embedded, it's worth considering.
Best for: Products that just want a public changelog page with no widget.
Patchlog
Full disclosure: we built Patchlog. So take this with appropriate skepticism.
We built it because all of the above either cost too much for early-stage products or were overly complex. Patchlog is a free tier that actually works, not a "free trial for 14 days" but a free plan you can run your changelog on indefinitely, covering 1 project and 25 updates with the widget and hosted page included. The Pro plan is $7 a month, or $60 a year, and it adds unlimited projects and updates, draft entries written from your GitHub pushes, a read-only API, a custom accent colour, and it removes the badge.
The widget embeds with one script tag. The public changelog is SEO-indexed. You can tag entries, add categories, and write in Markdown.
What it doesn't have (yet): user segmentation, NPS, detailed open analytics, email notifications to your users, or a custom domain on any plan, since your page lives on a patchlog.io subdomain. If you need those, you need a bigger tool.
Best for: Indie founders, small teams, and anyone who wants a working changelog without the enterprise price tag.
The honest recommendation
If you're early-stage: use Patchlog free or the $7/month Pro plan. You don't need Beamer yet.
If you're scaling and changelog engagement is a focus: Beamer or AnnounceKit is probably worth the spend for the analytics alone.
If you're somewhere in the middle: Headway or Noticeable gives you more features without the enterprise price.
Don't pay enterprise prices for a changelog on a startup budget. Your users won't notice the difference, but your runway will.
